You’ve been out on a walk. During your walk, your dog decided to go for a swim. In a bog. They have literally become a bog creature, with green slime all over them and a smell that is even worse than a french bulldog passing gas.
It’s time for every dog’s favorite time; bath time. Some dogs love jumping in the bath, others scream and howl as you drag them into a lovely bubble bath.
After a nice soak and a scrub, it is time to dry them off. And that is what we are going to talk about today. The different methods of drying off a dog.
1. Air Drying
If you have a dog with a short coat, like a French Bulldog or a Boston Terrier, then air-drying your dog after its bath is an option. It’s little work for you, just let your dog do a little shake and let it go mental as it tries to get itself dry and remove the beautiful smelling shampoo you washed it in.
This method may take the longest and could result in the smell of wet dog getting into your carpet and sofa, as your dog could sometimes rub itself against them to try and get itself dry and back to its normal smell.
It is not recommended to let a long-coated dog, like a Shih Tzu or a Bergamasco Shepherd, air dry, especially if it’s humid, as a damp coat could result in matting and warm damp fur is the ideal place for skin conditions to develop.
2. Towels
We humans, after a nice long soak in the bath, with some chocolates or maybe a glass of wine, dry ourselves with a towel, which is an efficient way of getting dry. So we can use this as a method on our own dogs.
The problem, however, is that most towels we dry ourselves with are not suitable for drying a dog. Due to a dog’s coat, it can hold more water and our human towels aren’t really designed to absorb that much water. They are also not designed to deal with dirt, mud, and dog hair.
This is why you should opt for specially designed, dog-friendly towels. These modern designs help absorb water faster, making drying faster. Some of them have a smooth design that helps prevent your dog’s coat from getting matted.

3. Hairdryer
Using a hairdryer is surely one of the fastest ways to dry your dog. However, it could be one of the hardest to use. Your dog could be sensitive to the sounds that hairdryers make, making it a struggle to keep it still whilst you dry it off.
When using a hairdryer you should always use it on a low setting, make sure that the end of the hairdryer is at least a couple of inches away, and that you keep moving the hairdryer so it is never on the same spot.
Each of these methods can be used to dry off your dog, but depending on the type of dog, the length of its coat, and how hot or cold the temperature is, some methods are better suited than others. Just keep this in mind when your pooch is in the bath, enjoying themselves with a bath bomb after they have been doggy-paddling in a smelly lake or giving themselves a mud bath.
