If you’re a dog owner or spend time around these magnificent creatures, then, you understand the appeal of a wagging tail. There’s been plenty of research over the years regarding canine behavior and intelligence, and the science behind these studies and experiments is quite telling.
Nope, They’re Not Dumb, LOL
New research has discovered that dogs are a lot smarter than many human beings assume. Your pooch is very good at reading people and interpreting human cues. Your furry companion is also excellent at learning words such as T-R-E-A-T or W-A-l-K, etc. In fact, some dogs have been trained to remember 1,000-plus words. It’s impressive.
One question that a lot of dog owners wonder about is this one:
“Do dogs recognize people on TV?”
Hey, They Love Their Screen Time
Okay, so dogs don’t watch television exactly like their human “parents” do, but these beautiful animals appear to be captivated by the screen and enjoy viewing. Dogs look at the world in a unique way because that’s just how they’re built.
According to TheWildest.com, your tail-wagging best friend has the ability to recognize what they’re looking at and hearing on TV. Especially with modern technology today that delivers crisp, clear audio and high-resolution images, your pup will watch the screen despite not having the ideal vision for differentiating as many colors that human beings do.
Dogs are very attracted to watching animals and really, other dogs. When they hear barking, whining and notes of praise, their ears go up, and they tune in.
Dogs React To A Tiger Commercial
Many breeds can recognize people on television, and here is some proof:
Numerous dogs at home would go wild when a certain, popular TV commercial came on the screen across the states of Kentucky and Indiana. A personal injury law firm, Kauffman & Stigger, PLLC, aired the ad at various times during the day, and when dogs heard the voice of Attorney Cara Stigger at the start of the TV commercial, pooches would come running to the screen knowing that “the tiger” would soon be on.
The tiger was an animated image in the ad, and once it began growling, dogs went right up to the TV screen barking back, jumping wildly up and down, etc.
The canines were able to recognize the commercial by the lawyer’s voice and the tiger’s growl. A number of dog owners sent the law firm videos of their pups watching the commercial and reacting to it.
You can check out a YouTube video here that shows a couple of excited dogs responding or “roaring” back to the Kauffman & Stigger TV commercial.
Every Canine and Species Is Special
Some folks admit that their pooch couldn’t be bothered looking at the television screen. Every canine is unique, and even their visual acuity can vary among other dog species. Some pooches have better motion perception than other pups for watching screen images.
Like every human individual has a special personality, the same could be said of canines. Some react to a TV show by barking like crazy, running around or merely ignoring the action.
Also, studies have found that dogs aren’t into TV for the long haul. They may enjoy tuning in for short bursts of time, but they’re not going to binge-watch any time soon.
Try A Video Call with Your Dog
Dogs are definitely bright animals that are excellent at an emotional connection to their owners, and they can usually recognize your face on television.
For example, research finds that video calling with your pooch may elicit some strange expressions on their adorable furry faces, especially with a smaller screen such as on Skype or your tablet. Changes in the dimension of images, compressed signals and a pup’s visual acuity will come into play.
Rest assured, however, that dogs can recognize their owners on TV screens. It may look weird to a canine to see his or her owner with only a head and shoulders on the screen.
Science shows that dogs can recognize you in large pictures. When it comes to TV, the moving screen presents all kinds of shapes and flickering lights that can be challenging to some dogs and breeds.
Dogs love human beings, and they just want to please their owners. They’re amazing creatures that are kind, loyal, fun and loving. They’re smarter than folks give them credit for. Dogs see you in more incredible ways than one.
